Big picture
At the start of the World Cup, defending champions India would have accepted gleefully the position they find themselves in - a quarter-final against Bangladesh, the lowest-ranked of the remaining eight teams, a side with medium-pacers and spinners that India's batsmen have found relatively easy to bully, a team without big-match experience, and a team with vulnerabilities outside the subcontinent. Ironically, Bangladesh would probably have accepted their position too.
Though India, on current form, are superior in every aspect, their brand of cricket and their frailties are not unfamiliar to Bangladesh. It isn't South Africa, who are going to blow them away with extreme pace and bounce, or with muscular hitting. India's batsmen are better at what Bangladesh aim for - timing, using the pace of the ball, and wristwork - and India execute better in the field with a similar bowling formation to Bangladesh. There is no doubt about who the favourites are - Bangladesh admitted as much - but it allows them to plan more intuitively.
When the ICC fixed the knockout schedule, Bangladesh were not mentioned. The MCG was to host the England quarter-final, and if they didn't make it the team that did in their place would play at Australia's largest ground. Bangladesh grabbed that spot with verve, handing England their return tickets after a clinical finish in Adelaide. They even came close to finishing third in their group. With the batsmen scoring consistently and all the bowlers contributing, Bangladesh are deservedly in the last eight.
What could help Bangladesh is India going off the boil, but that hasn't happened yet in this tournament. In a complete turnaround from their first two months in Australia, India have found the aura defending champions ought to bring. Barring one or two players, everyone has contributed to the resurgence. The quarter-final appears to be their smallest bump on the road ahead, but one uncontrolled approach is all it takes.

Stats and trivia
  • Bangladesh are playing their first knockout match in a top-flight ICC tournament. India, on the other hand, are playing their 10th under MS Dhoni's captaincy. Dhoni, with eight wins from nine matches (Champions Trophy, World T20 and World Cup) is level with Ricky Ponting, whose eight wins have come from 11 games.
  • Bangladesh batsman Mahmudullah has scored 344 runs from five games in this World Cup, more than anyone from India. Five of Bangladesh's top 10 aggregates for batsmen in a World Cup have come in this tournament.
  • None of the India batsmen in this squad has scored a century in an ICC tournament knockout game.
  • This is Bangladesh's 300th ODI. They played India in their 100th (2004) and 150th ODI (2007), winning both games.
Quotes
"I wanted to congratulate Bangladesh for qualifying for the quarter-final. It's good to see India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh - all four subcontinent teams - in the quarter-final. Earlier people were saying that we don't have allrounders for conditions, so it's good to see the teams from subcontinent through."
India batsman Suresh Raina
"2007 won't help; 2011, when we lost, that doesn't help either. In short-form cricket, what is important is how you do on the day."
Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza

Live cricket streaming- Bangladesh v India, World Cup 2015

Zimbabwe: 1 Sikandar Raza, 2 Richmond Mutumbami (wk), 3 Hamilton Masakadza, 4 Brendan Taylor, 5 Sean Williams, 6 Elton Chigumbura (capt), 7 Luke Jongwe 8 Neville Madziva, 9 John Nyumbu, 10 Prosper Utseya, 11 Brian Vitori
South Africa: 1 Hashim Amla, 2 Quinton de Kock (wk) 3 Faf du Plessis, 4 JP Duminy 5 AB de Villiers (capt), 6 David Miller, 7 Ryan McLaren, 8 Wayne Parnell, 9 Kyle Abbott, 10 Aaron Phangiso, 11 Imran Tahir

Zimbabwe made much-needed changes to the top and bottom of their XI, but did not veer from the statistically favoured option of chasing in Bulawayo, in what was a must-win match for them. On a dry surface that may later take turn, Elton Chigumbura once again chose to bowl, but at least this time, he had Brian Vitori in his arsenal.
Vitori, who was struggling with an ankle niggle, replaced allrounder Shingi Masakadza and was expected to add some threat to a Zimbabwean attack that relied more on discipline than danger, to tie South Africa down.
Although a score of 309, which South Africa made on Sunday, can hardly be called a restriction, the Bulawayo surfaces are said to produce par totals of around 280, so Zimbabwe knew they will be up for a big task in the second innings.
That is maybe why Zimbabwe also replaced Vusi Sibanda with Sikandar Raza, who recovered from a broken thumb. This was the second time in the last month that Sibanda had been dropped, after also being left out of the three ODIs against Afghanistan.
South Africa were unchanged, leaving experimentation to the final ODI, should it be a dead rubber. Their attack was composed of two specialist spinners as well as JP Duminy and three seamers.

I AM READY TO RETURN: DASSANAYAKE

I AM READY TO RETURN: DASSANAYAKE

Kathmandu – National Cricket Team Coach – Pubudu Dassanayake is planning to return to Nepal after the acceptance of his one year contract.
Pubuda flew back to Canada in June after the Cricket association of Nepal (CAN) failed to renew his contract which was expired on June 30. But a Cabinet meeting held in Singhadurbar on July 18 extended his contract for one year.
“I have got the official letter from the Youth and Sports ministry. I am ready to return,” Dassanayake told to Himalayan times (Newspaper).
In September 2011, Dassanayake was hired as a national team Coach for $5,000 per month. After the team succeeded to reach ICC T20 World Cup, CAN then appraised his salary to $8,000 in March. Pubudu Dassnayake

live scorecard and live comentary, like never before .India vs england, 3rd Investec Test

Here come England's openers, captain Cook and first mate Sam Robson, under gradually clearing skies, nice and warm once again in this glorious British summer. Bhuvneshwar Kumar to open the bowling at the Northern End...

Mark: "Chris Woakes? Cannot believe Plunkett has been dropped as I don't think he has been anywhere near England's worst bowler. Woakes and Jordan are nowhere near Test match quality." Certainly Woakes has much to prove from his previous appearance for England but it's down to the batsmen first who will be striding out in a few minutes...

10.50am What do you make of Cook's decision to bat first here? The pressure will be right on them - and Cook in particular - to get stuck in but conditions for the seamers will probably be the best in the game this morning. India shouldn't be too displeased at all that they have the chance to use the fresh conditions after their excellent showing with the ball throughout the series so far.

10.40am For England, there's a return for Woakes who I saw play pretty well as captain for England Lions in the winter, he's also performed well for Warwickshire and has been around the Test squad for a while. He comes in for Ben Stokes who hasn't come back all-guns blazing as was expected by many. Jordan is also back, Liam Plunkett making way, Cook saying he needs a rest after two tough matches. But the big change is of course Buttler who arrives to provide England supporters with hope of better times to come.

Well, plenty of changes to mull over here. Let's start with the visitors who have brought Pankaj in for just his second international match. If you haven't heard much about him, Nagraj Gollapudi penned a feature about the Rajasthani seamer. Rohit is a more familiar name and makes sense coming in for Binny who, with the ball, hasn't featured much so far in this series.

10.30am Time for the toss, Alastair Cook and MS Dhoni are out having a final look at the wicket, which like Lord's has a hint of green about it, Shane Warne likes the deck, so if he's happy, we can all be happy. Cook flicks the tuppence, Dhoni calls heads, it lands a tail and England will bat first. Cook confirms three changes, Chris Woakes and Chris Jordan also coming in along with Jos Buttler behind the sticks.

England 1 Alastair Cook (capt), 2 Sam Robson, 3 Gary Ballance, 4 Ian Bell, 5 Joe Root, 6 Moeen Ali, 7 Jos Buttler (wk), 8 Chris Jordan, 9 Stuart Broad, 10 Chris Woakes, 11 James Anderson

Dhoni says they were 50-50 over the decision at the toss and reckons there's a bit of moisture in the wicket. Pankaj is confirmed with Ishant rested, Stuart Binny is also out of the side with Rohit Sharma playing as an extra batsman.

India 1 M Vijay, 2 Shikhar Dhawan, 3 Cheteshwar Pujara, 4 Virat Kohli, 5 Ajinkya Rahane, 6 Rohit Sharma, 7 MS Dhoni (capt/wk), 8 Ravindra Jadeja, 9 Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 10 Pankaj Singh, 11 Mohammed Shami.

And now more team news, Pankaj Singh has been handed his Test cap and will debut for India, in place of Ishant Sharma who is out with injury. We'll get confirmation at the toss in five minutes.

First thing to tell you is that Jos Buttler has been handed his England cap - I'm sure you've been reading the news in the lead up to the match - and will make his debut here after Matt Prior decided to stand down for the summer because of his injury problems. Suggestions that England are set to make more than one change too.

10.15am BST Hello and good morning, welcome to live ball-by-ball coverage of the third Investec Test between England and India from the Ageas Bowl. India one-up from Lord's and England now under extreme pressure to respond, not least for the future of captain Alastair Cook.
